The Chief Executives Forum met at Selwyn District Council on 28 July 2025.
Key agenda items:
- Progressing the development of the draft (working title) ‘Waitaha Canterbury Pathway to Success”) document to support future regional deal discussions that align with the current CMF workstreams of transport, energy, housing and infrastructure
- Canterbury Climate Partnership Plan – noting progress on the key actions, the Emissions Reduction workstream, the monitoring, evaluation and reporting plan and the quarterly implementation progress report
- Next steps to progress transport investment opportunities across the region
- Waitaha Canterbury Regional Housing Strategic Plan – endorsing the final draft Waitaha Canterbury Regional Housing Strategic Plan for approval at the August 2025 Canterbury Mayoral Form meeting
- Resource Management Reform – noting recent central government announcements and indications of a move towards regionalisation and a national approach to planning
- Canterbury Water Management Strategy – noting an update on the region-wide work underway to implement the Canterbury Water Management Strategy
- Preparation for the 2025 – 2028 triennium, including the draft Canterbury Local Authorities’ Triennial Agreement and member induction material
- Building Consent Authority – update on preliminary discussions on possible options for a regional building consent authority
- Regional forums update – noting the update on recent activity at the various regional forums, and approval of the 2025/26 budget
- An update from the Regional Public Service Commissioner, and discussion with the Leader Advisor to Minister for the South Island, Hon James Meager.
